Question #2: All About Friends

Please answer the following two questions:


1) In the novel, Junior's best friend Rowdy seems to be the exact opposite of him. Why do you think Junior likes Rowdy so much? What purpose does he serve in Junior's life?


2) Is there a value in having a friend who is different than you?
Have you ever had a friend who very different than you? Why did you like that person?

Question #1: Examining the Cover and Beyond

1. In the title, the main character Junior refers to himself as a "part-time" Indian. Why does he feel this way about himself? What do you make of the two images on the cover? How could they reflect his personal struggle?

2. What have you learned this year about the treatment of Native Americans by white settlers? What do you know about reservation life for Native Americans?
